POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on educator to lead innovative, project-based learning experiences in our school’s special subject program. The ideal candidate will combine a passion for creative problem-solving and digital fluency with foundational skills in woodworking and computer science. This teacher will empower students to explore real-world challenges using tools ranging from hammers and hand-powered drills to block coding platforms, graphic design with Canva, Minecraft Education Edition, LEGO robotics kits, and Python programming.

This is a full-time, 10-month position beginning August 25, 2025, and ending on June 11, 2026. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission of the school.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that integrate:
    • basic woodworking skills and safe tool use
    • block-based coding environments (e.g., Scratch, Wonder Workshop)
    • LEGO engineering and robotics, including SPIKE Prime
      • Coordinate and prepare Grade 6 students for the LEGO First Robotics competition 
    • Introductory Python programming for upper elementary students with imagi
  • Teach and model digital citizenship and Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive) with an emphasis on communication, collaboration, and organization
  • Manage and maintain a well-organized classroom, including tools, materials, and technology
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs and abilities
  • Encourage a growth mindset and resilience through iterative design and troubleshooting
  • Integrate interdisciplinary connections with other subjects, such as Social Studies and Science, to enhance learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists through regular meetings to share curriculum ideas and student information.
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, addressing space and resource limitations in a creative manner.
  • Communicate with parents and administrators regarding student progress and support needs, including writing narrative progress reports twice a year. 
  • Continuously improve the curriculum and assessment practices, incorporating feedback and exploring new innovations.
  • Promote a commitment to social justice, inclusivity, and diversity within the Building & Engineering program.
  • Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Participate in all-school activities, such as Admissions events and the Carnival, that take place outside of regular work hours.
  • Engage in regular professional development opportunities to ensure continual growth and renewal.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a field related to the discipline
  • Experience teaching or working with children, preferably in a STEM or maker environment  
  • Familiarity with educational technologies and platforms, such as Scratch, LEGO Education software, or similar. Experience with Python coding is a plus.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
