Position: School Counselor 

Full-time, 10-month position for 2025-26 School Year

Supervisor: Director of Learning Support

Position Summary 

The Chestnut Hill School (CHS) invites compassionate and collaborative professionals to apply for the position of School Counselor. CHS is an inclusive community of joyful learners who think critically, embrace diversity, and act with empathy. The counselor will play a central role in promoting the social, emotional, and psychological well-being of students, working closely with families, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling
  • Lead social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons in homerooms
  • Facilitate social pragmatics groups for PreK–Grade 5
  • Support students informally during transitions, recess, or clubs
  • Offer in-the-moment crisis response and behavioral support.
Family Engagement
  • Maintain and share a referral network of outside mental health providers
  • Coordinate with external providers supporting CHS students
  • Participate in meetings with families and caregivers as needed
Faculty Collaboration
  • Partner with teachers to support student social skills and behavioral plans
  • Observe students and share feedback and strategies
  • Review evaluations and testing with the Director of Learning Support
  • Contribute to professional development sessions
  • Meet weekly with the Student Success Team.
A Day in the Life Might Include...
  • Greeting students and families at arrival and dismissal
  • Supporting a student during a tough drop-off
  • Joining a grade-level meeting to monitor student support plans
  • Offering real-time classroom support
  • Connecting with students in unstructured moments like recess

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in clinical social work, counseling psychology, or a related field
  • Licensed or license-eligible in Massachusetts (e.g., LMHC, LICSW) preferred
  • Strong understanding of child development, especially ages 3–12
  • Experience in elementary or independent school settings preferred
  • Knowledge of IEPs and the special education process is a plus
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
