First Grade Teacher - Parental Leave Substitute, February to June, 2025
Position Summary: The First Grade Leave teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum, assessing the educational development of their students, communicating with families, and supporting the mission of The Chestnut Hill School.
The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and hourly for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year, starting February 19, 2025, and ending June 12, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with grade-level colleagues and learning specialists, plan and implement the first-grade academic program, including but not limited to Heggerty’s Bridge to Reading phonics program, Handwriting Without Tears, and Illustrative Mathematics.
- Implement the Open Circle curriculum and attend to the social and emotional development of individual students and the class as a whole.
- Differentiate teaching methods, assignments, and/or assessments to meet students’ needs.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety.
- Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events.
- Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning objectives.
- Write spring narrative progress reports to record and communicate students’ progress.
- Support and supervise the student teacher or associate teacher, as applicable.
- Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance.
- Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned.
- Plan field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in all-school activities, such as Admissions events
- Support the mission of the school in all ways by engaging and communicating effectively with staff and parents.
- Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School or Associate Head of Teaching and Learning
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in education or related field preferred
- Experience working with children in this age range, particularly literacy instruction in lower elementary preferred
- Proven ability to communicate, problem-solve, and collaborate effectively with colleagues
